Hi all,
I haven't heard definitively if anyone from the core QLink team is coming to WoC next weekend. brain was sick last I heard (Jim, any news?) and Jeff has another commitment.
However, I'd like to see some QLink presence at the show, as it's one of the more active exciting activities in the C= community these days.
Three parts to this:
1. Handouts etc. like at SWRAP. I'm happy to print a bunch out (on normal paper) if someone can point me to the latest PDFs. I can also do a smaller, b/w version of the poster too.
2. At least one live terminal. We'll have high-speed in the Expo room, but we'll need a PC for tcpser per terminal. I'd rather not leave my laptop hooked up for this all day. Golan, any thoughts on what can be done for this?
3. A short talk for those who haven't heard of the project before. I could fake my way through this, or fold it into my "how to get on the Intenet with a Commodore" tutorial.

I still have the Quantumlink Reloaded poster. My bad, it's in the tube, I just have to take it to fedex.
If there is going to be another presentation, I could ship it there, if Jim would like

I'm planning on bringing my iBook and a PC notebook in case I end up doing a demo on the state of emulation. As it happens, I just happen to have an old PC kicking around this week that I could bring to the show if necessary. It isn't ideal though, it's BIG and slow. I'm not at home right now so I can't check but I would be surprised if it didn't have a couple of serial ports. It would be quite nice to have a couple of 64s in a 'net ready' state so people could try Q-Link Reloaded and/or connecting to telnet boards. I suppose we could even run VICE on the gateway machine to exhibit what can be done with emulators. Hrm.
Whatever we end up doing, I think that talking about Quantum-Link Reloaded and telnet BBSes dovetails quite nicely with your presentation and is probably worth doing.

I only have one user port RS232 interface though. Seems to be rare in Toronto. I'll bring it and a SwiftLink.

I can't make it there. But I got a small Linux PC that had tcpser running on it. It starts at boot up and works on both it's RS232 port. But I have a USB to RS232 and it works on that too. So it can be on 3 at the same time. I tested it. This would be very good to bring But I will not be there.
All I would have to hook on it is power and Ethernet. Then just plug in up to 3 RS232 from the commodores to get on BBS or Q-Link reloaded over the net.
If you really need something like this. I have another board just like this and could set it all up. But I have no case for it. I could send it but would all so want it back.

TPUG might have an RS-232 interface banging about somewhere. Do you have any additional cables that you could bring? We'll need to have one 64 net connected for your demo and others and it sure would be nice to have at least one net connected 64 for people to use. I guess we'll have to wing it.

Here is the set up I have that if you really need it could connect at lest 3 real commodores to the Internet. Q-Link Reloaded or Terminal Programs. It has a new load of Fedora Linux on it and tcpser. No case on the small motherboard. But I could put one on it like the power supply. Like a grid basket and a bottom with standoffs on it. That's how the power supply is. This set up works real good with 2 com posts and a USB to RS232. It auto starts up tcpser on boot. Auto gets a IP address too. So it would just be like plug in and ready to go. But if you need the cables that are in this photo and the RS232's I have then I could just send them if you really need them. I would think some one going there could have a set up something like this. The RS232's are VIC-1011A Jameco The 74LS04 chip type one. You can see in the photo how I had to hook up the VIC-1011A to work. The 04 one chip RS232 I have a Ethernet cord on it used as a RS232 cord. It works good. A Ethernet card as a RS232 cord.

Thanks Raymond, but I don't think it will get here in time. We'll sort something out.

Leif, no worries. I'll bring 1 T-232, 1 Swiftlink and an omnitronix.
Will that be helpful?

Whoa, so you are coming CJ? Great! I assume those all need the 2400 baud QLink patch, because they don't use the user port? If so please bring a patched disk, I haven't figured out how to do the patch yet.
The right null modem cables and a PC would be really helpful too.

Hey CJ. Are you planning on crossing at Buffalo, NY? There was someone (I'm horrible with names) in #c64friends that wanted desperately to come to the World of Commodore but was a little short on cash and couldn't figure out an affordable way to get from Buffalo to Toronto and back. If you were passing through town and he could hitch a ride with you it might work out. What do you think? If you're game l can ask around to see if I can figure out who it was.
Wow. I am *really* off-topic. Sorry about that.

I'll bet its Rayzor that wants to hitch a ride. I think he lives in Buffalo, and yeah I'll be passing Buffalo.
Anyway, I'd be glad to pick someone up.
Leif,
I will bring the swiftlink and T-232, but I do not have time to to mess with patching qlink. The omnitronix works fine with Q, and I also have a generic that works too, they are both user port. I think we're good to go. I will configure my hunk of crap laptop with either your BBS server or tcpser. Not sure If it will work but I'll try.
Also bringing, the SX-64, 1 1581, centipede on a 1581, and various other stuff. oh yeah and a broken 1581 that someone can fix for me?
