Ok, I think this goes along with what Jeff was talking about in his announcement recently about needing peeps willing to commit, but maybe not, so Im tossing it out as a different thread.
What things would you like to see in Qlink? Whats on your wish list?
Mine:
#1 - A stats area of some sort...things like how long server has been up, how many users today, this week, month, etc. How many users currently online total. Total users.
#2 - RSS newsfeed from somwhere. I wrote QBOT which did that, but I agree with Jim, this should be a server function.
#3 - Tie people connection with a known IRC channel such as #c64friends, so we can chat without a client when the need arises
#4 - Uploads...so we can start THE repository for C64/128 software
#5 - QBay... the online auction for Commodore stuff. Dunno if this can be done since it prolly needs client-side help.
#6 - Reverse engineer the client, so that #5 plus so much more could be done, including a C128 80 column client.
#7 - QMail -> internet email, and vice versa
Add what you would like too. This is of course just a wish list - Jim is working on getting the system working as is right now. If youre a coder, let us know too. (I am)
Thanks
X

Jim is working on bring back Q-Link 100% then after that he can add other things. But he is adding other things like the 5 names you can have you can delete them and other stuff with names you could not do on the old Q-Link.
So as he makes this a 100% like the old Q-Link if it's easy to add some things on the way I guess Jim will do it.

I have had an idea about using a SuperCPU and the C128 80-column mode to implelment a SuperQ enhancment that encompases the rest of the service as well.
Of course, that treads on dangerous ground, for reasons some may know.
And I have no idea when I'll have time to do it.

I like that one stats always good!

Yeah BOT was cool gave an idea on how it would look I had fun tryin it out for ya!
#3 - Tie people connection with a known IRC channel such as #c64friends, so we can chat without a client when the need arises
Hmm Wouldnt it beet the purpose of having QLINK on if most could just use IRC/MIRC? But see where your comin from But that is where q has its charm need real c64 or Vice.
#4 - Uploads...so we can start THE repository for C64/128 software
Def. agree here Download/upload old school style
#5 - QBay... the online auction for Commodore stuff. Dunno if this can be done since it prolly needs client-side help.
Hmm true maybe just use something like that in The Mall section?
#6 - Reverse engineer the client, so that #5 plus so much more could be done, including a C128 80 column client.
Thats interesting a 128 client that q shouldve had back in the day I used a 128 wouldve been nice to use 80 col and all the full keyboard
#7 - QMail -> internet email, and vice versa
Hmmm not so sure on this opens up the SPAM highway with Qlinks internal Mail system its pretty much isolated from spam and stuff.
Would we want to sign on see MAIL in the lower corner and only have 20 msgs of Spam?
over all Like to see basic system up towhere the guys want it Super Q, Club Caribe, Habitat, Rabbit Jacks Casino
Then maybe the not original stuff
Hey just opinions

Hmm... I'd really just like to see some message boards other than the alpha tester's board. I'd volunteer to lead an anime/manga/comics/cartoons community.
U/D would be nice, but at 1200 baud they're slow... Maybe a hack that would allow faster access (a la the telbbs 19K, 52K and 100K hacks) would make downloads more attractive to those who either use VICE or have a REAL serial cart and have been spoiled by years of network access where even 56K access has been considered slow...
E-mail interconnection would be nice... IF spam can be kept under control...
IRC interface to the chat would actually be an OK feature to have in the server. It would make it easier for those of us who are sometimes on machines that can't be VICEd to keep in touch. I think a virtual IRC server (irc.quantum-link.org) would work better than an interface to c64 friends tho, since an irc server would be able to properly show any subrooms as well as implement the correct 10 character names and 23 people/room limit.

Yeah a little faster be nice on DL's as for IRC Maybe interconnectivity for chatting but dont need all the BS that IRC or MIRC have in it Email Keep the spam to 0% and Ill be happy Get enough through normal email accts. having q on its own I thought was a good thing 1 spam mail from internet to my Qlink name is too much

OK, as of tonight, this is in place.
Any public room IRC <name> (IRC, space, and a name) will patch into NEWNet under the same name (minus the IRC and the space)
Private rooms are not included, and if you miss the space, you'll just be in a normal room :-)

Just me sitting around. Er... what's my major malfunction? (Note I had to sign on as Pinac0lada, since my original "disks" are in storage.)

I would like to see QLink working with the Power64 emulator on my PowerBook G4.
I can run the client, but Power64 does not have any modem emulation that will connect it to the internet.... not the authors fault, but I can't use it until this happens.....
Modem emulation is on the feature list for upcoming versions.....

I too run Power64. It's a very easy to use emulator but it does lack some of the features of VICE (which is what I use to access Q-Link). It (VICE) requires Xwindows although an OS X native version is in the works. Modem emulation is on the feature list for upcoming versions..... Where did you hear this? I sent Roland Lieger, the author of Power64, an email last year inquiring about communications features and he said he was focusing on fixing bugs rather than adding features. Modem emulation is the feature I would most like to see added to Power64 followed by better support for cartridge images. One last thing, there's a website called Think Commodore that focuses on emulation of Commodore computers on the Mac. You should check it out. It's worth it.
