Since I obviously cannot do what I was looking to do in the last post (program on my WinXP while serving the files to my DTV) I thought of another idea. But I'm not sure it would work either.
I read an article on comp.sys.cbm a few months ago that there is a POKE you can do on a C64 which will allow you to connect more than one C64 up to the same disk drive. (Something about lowering the ATN line) But what it didn't say is what functionality this would give somebody. I started wondering if maybe I could hook up another DTV or a real C64 up to the same 1581 I'm using on a DTV already. Then i could write and compile code on one, and load and test on the other. This would save a lot of time.
I also had another thought. I don't "have" to run Windows XP. After all the cross-compiler I use runs under DOS. I mosty use notepad in WindowsXP to write the assembler code. So all I really need is a way in DOS to keep an editor open and be able to launch the compiler. Maybe I can do this from the DOS EDIT program? Any ideas here? I would still want the DTV to be hooked to the PC and have the PC serve the files to the DTV (specifically the file I am programming on)
