I am about to receive a DTV2 for modding from UK and was asking myself if I go to the extent of flashing the kernal (since flashing is risky and also these units are getting harder to get nowadays).
I have modded and flashed 1 Hummer unit before. I am wondering how many of our MODDERS here have gone to the extent of flashing the kernal on their DTVs?

While I'm no "MODDER" (still haven't soldered a single wire for a DTV), somehow I've end up with 3 modded DTVs. I've flashed all their kernals at least once, one of them using only a dtvtrans cable and keyboard. Unless you plan to use dtvtrans and/or DTVMON heavily or perhaps "free" the userport for some use (although DTVSlimIntro probably takes care of the related settings these days), I don't see much reason for flashing the kernal. Having DTVSlimIntro as INTRO and including a dummy "boot to BASIC" entry should be convenient enough. If you still plan to flash it, I strongly recommend practising with x64dtv; as an anecdote, the first thing I did for x64dtv was flash emulation so I could do this

Nojoopa: Thanks for the info
I hope I am not repeating myself...so what you are saying is I can patch the DTV by just replacing only the games (from $1000? on). I'd like to flash the unit with Ebster's games but not touching the Kernal part.

1570 / Nojoopa:
THANK YOU.. I am in the process of building my first DTV2 (PAL) hack project. I am trying to be very careful in doing my hack since this is the only DTV2 I have. I was lucky to have Critty (from lemon64) give me his DTV2 from UK. I have done at least 2 Hummer hacks before, flashed the kernal, etc.
Also, it believe it is time for me to spend sometime on VICE2plus and simulate DTV2 flashing, etc.
Thanks 1570 for the links. I know both of you spent a lot of time making the WIKI for all of us in this forum.
