Howdy, I learned how to program assembly on the C=64 many years ago. I have since given it up to move to the Amiga family of computers. Now I find myself longing for the simple days of the C=64 again. A buddy and I are trying to write a "moral-deli ma" game. I have lost most of my original programming on the C=64 so I am having to relearn the basics again. I've since thrown away all my computing magazines as well.
In the "old days" I would mount a huge 64,000 square of graph paper to the wall and draw a bit-mapped screen. Then convert the bits to bytes and include them in my assembly. While that was fun, I don't want to relive that today. Is there a way to get a 320x200 picture created with Amiga DPaint 3 into the C=64? I have two background files on a 1541 disk. They both start at $4F46 and I know how to relocate them using a Machine Language Monitor. My mental block concerns the Color RAM. Do I have to create a DPaint file using a single color then plot Color RAM separately? Or can I take an ILBM file and rip it apart and send it to various memory locations in the C=64 so that it can be displayed properly? My buddy and I have high hopes for this game, but he is getting discouraged that I am unable to display his artwork on the C=64. Later, Tony

The C64 doesn't just display ILBM format, files need to be converted to something the C64 can deal with. Assuming that the image was drawn in a form that allows for the C64 resolution and colour handling, getting it converted is, generally speaking, a two stage process but needs some fairly specialised software. i don't mind having a look at it...

Howdy, Thanks for the quick reply. I have access to the Adobe CS2 suite from my workplace. Can you enlighten me to a specific process? That would save me from having to pass everyting we do to you to fix. :-) Later, Tony

Well, the biggie is "don't use CS2" to be honest... it's great for photos an' stuff, but not for processes like these; i use either a combination of ProMotion with the grids on to see attribute cells and my own (incredibly primitive) Koala conversion tool or simply working in Project One over Windows which can paint in C64 formats directly.

Howdy, Thanks MadModder, I've downloaded that file. Later, Tony

After porting with most tools you'll probably need to clean things up afterwards; the older the tool, the more cleaning you'll need to do.
