I was concerned that we weren't making much headway with Weather War (maybe too complex for a first effort), and I wanted to have something ready in time for this year's World of Commodore. So I decided to change gears slightly and have implemented a much simpler game, based on the classic Artillery Duel. Download it from here: home.ica.net/~leifb/commodore/duel/index.htmlIt reuses 80% of the Weather War code written so far, and the protocol is almost exactly identical. This version is only barely functional, but it should work at least as far as shooting back and forth at each other. Notes: -The IP address is hardcoded to 192.168.1.64 - easily changed with a hex editor though. -Chat doesn't work. -Damage doesn't work -Miscellaneous screen bugs Still, I'd be grateful if those with an RR-Net or ETH64 could download it and try it out, either with me or someone else. Look for me on C64Friends as "Schema".

As thurstan so dramatically pointed out, it works! New version upcoming: -Damage works and is sync'd with opponent -Most screen bugs fixed -Chat now works (F7 to send a message) -Joystick input is much, much improved -A swish new look -Uses a config file as per MagerValp's proposed config layout www.paradroid.net/ipconfig/You still need to edit the config file with a hex editor, but at least it only has to be done once. Left to do, roughly in order of priority: -Fix possible bug with announce protocol -Wind -Help/config screens and save config file -Explosion graphics, screen shake -Minor damage from near misses -Auto player order -Destroy landscape -Random terrain (hires screen?)

Doesn't Modem Wars or Operation Terminal count? Don't forget Flash Attack 64. Larry Anderson was happily demonstrating it all weekend to the crowd at the Vintage Computer Festival 9.0 on Nov. 4-5. Truly, Robert Bernardo Fresno Commodore User Group videocam.net.au/fcug

Sigh. First Internet game, then.
Larry and I briefly discussed how he can UDP-ify Flash Attack on IRC, and I pointed him to this forum and the RR-net developers forum.

Larry was demonstrating Flash Attack for the PET at VCF 9.0. He demonstrated Flash Attack 64 at CommVEx v2. Truly, Robert Bernardo Fresno Commodore User Group videocam.net.au/fcug

Here's my PowerPoint presentation about the game from WoC2006. Nothing you don't already know, but you can see what's been said about the game and the thank-you everyone who helped out. www.jammingsignal.com/woc2006/ArtilleryDuel.pptThe demo itself went sort of OK, it didn't work properly with two real c64s so I had to use a PC (gasp!) for the other player. Still working on the game though, and I have a new version of the netlib from Six.

The audience on the other hand described the demo as "very cool". I have been watching your progress here and had the benefit of seeing the game on the first day you started coding and as an audience member, I was still well impressed. Nice job.

I totally agree with Golan. I thought the demo went over real well Leif. A completely working game is well within grasp and I can't wait to try it out - once I cough up for a NIC of course!

Thanks for the mention Leif.
Would have been cool if you could have hooked up to my machine over the net for the live demo!
But glad to see you got to demo it and show it off at the event.
