There's another 1541 disk drive replacement project that is interesting enough to warrant mentioning here. Behold the 1541 "Ultimate" which is an implementation of the 1541 disk drive in an FPGA. This device looks promising and could end up being capable of far more than it was originally intended for.

Haha, my work firewall is a bit too aggressive: This site has been blocked by the network administrator. Please contact the network administrator if you want access to this site. URL: commodore-gg.hobby.nl/innovatie_1541kaart_eng.htm Reason for restriction: Forbidden Category "Pornography" That said, it's great to hear about another 1541 replacement project. As I've mentioned before, I'm really keen on having a mass storage device for my VIC-20, and 1541 emulation is the best way to go about it.

More info on this The 1541 Ultimate can be found from Retrohackers forum: retrohackers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=318&sid=a89ca210621917a4e4f65fdef28c9bbdIt's development is at that stage that pre-orders can be placed via email. Also standalone feature for this is under development... So it might be possible to use this with DTV also. Even greater device if this will realize, I will get one to use with my real C64 anyway! -Ziili

It appears the person making the video isn't aware of how to get rid of the rolling black bars on the CRT while taking video..

There is two versions under development, 99EUR with smaller flash and 119E with bigger one. First production round is going to happen during February 2008 (and the pre-orders are for that). This information is from that retrohackers forum thread and from pre-order mailing list. -Ziili

Looks like if you are in the second round, like me, you just got screwed.
He announced the production run was starting, offered the upgrade to ethernet capability, asked everyone to pre-pay to help offset the up-front costs.....
And today his website is all 404.
It's sad.

The website apparently had a security breach. Gideon's a good guy. He'll deliver, not to worry.
