Hey there, I got a couple of cool retro gifts under the Christmas tree! One was the Classic Computers Of The Past 2006 ( www.digicraft.com.au/calendars) calendar - it is very nice. Great pictures of various retro computers, with specs and a screenshot. Also, I got a "pop killer" or "pop filter", which is a device that goes in front of a microphone, and filters annoying "P" and "S" sounds. These sounds happen a lot during spoken word recording, and having this should improve the quality of the podcast audio. What did other folks get? Anyone want to share? Was Santa good to you? - Earl

I received a gp2x for xmas and have been spending countless hours using it. The Atari 800 emulation is quite good and I'm hoping to start coding for it once I get my cross compiling setup going. take care, ~telengard

Seasons greetings to everyone! Yes that calender looks cool, would look great in my computer room! I didnt get any retro related items for Christmas, but last week I treated myself to a C64 DTV to cheer myself up (my father passed away beginning of this month sadly). Its the NTSC version and am well chuffed with it. But i did get various electronic gadgets. Mario Kart DS for the Nintendo DS and a Navman Pocket PC with built in GPS satnav. But the coolest thing was a pet plant! www.gogo-gadgets.co.uk/index.asp?function=DISPLAYPRODUCT&productid=391

My condolences on the passing of your father. I'm curious why you chose the NTSC version. While the PAL DTV requires some work to improve the video, it's a more hackable device than the NTSC model. Are you planning on modding your DTV or are you going to keep it stock?

Becky allowed me to order some stuff from CCCC under the terms that nothing would be opened till Christmas. I had a truly retro christmas. 2 VIC 20's with datacassette and a couple games. Since I've never really used the VIC 20 (maybe 5mins 20years ago) I've discovered a very cool version of BASIC with easy to access controls to 3 voice sound and color. I'm also making use of the datacassette, something I haven't done in years! Jeff

Thanks Golan.
Got the NTSC version as that was the only one in the shop! I plan to hack it when i get a PAL version to keep as stock. Another thing to add to my ever growing "to do" list !

telengard - how are you finding the controls on your GP2X? i hear they are a bit fiddly to use The joystick isn't so hot. The true scope of the issue is just now coming to light. Seems that the diagonal switches (why there are those is an issue also) are larger than the x-y ones so there is much more bias towards directionals. That's about the only issue as far as controls. It's also my *only* complaint about the unit and I have no doubt there will either be a replacement joystick or a fix of some sorts. It's pretty awkward. I haven't been playing it much because I'm porting xmess to it. It's coming along quite nicely. ~telengard

I received a Panasonic Plunger portable 8-track player for Christmas along with a dozen 8-tracks to play on it.
Not exactly a retro-computer but I like to play the "Saturday Night Fever" 8-track while programming my c-128 emulator.

One particular album I had the tracks changed at the best parts of the songs. They would fade in and fade out during a guitar solo or something. I still to this day when listening to the songs play the 8-track version in my head. ~telengard
