I finally got some of the 256 color demos transferred to a 1541 disk today. So I finally had to dig out the color monitor to see it instead of the black & white I'd been running my DTV on. The "moire" effect that everybody has been talking about is much worse on the color monitor than on black & white. Perhaps it has to do more with the chroma signal than the luma. However, even if I put my 1084 in Chroma/Luma mode with the composite in the Luma section, the video still looks different from how a C64 would look attached in the same manner. It still looks like I've hooked an Apple II up to my monitor. (which I've done before)
I heard somebody mentioning about the crystal. If I replaced the crystal with a different one, would that fix it? Has anybody found a specific part# I could order from a distributor somewhere?
I've also heard people hooking up S-Video to the system. I would also do that, if I thought it would fix the problem. So the big question is, does it? Or would I just end up with a sharper looking "moire" effect?
What is interesting is that if I turn the background of the screen black and type in white text, it isn't noticable.
Anybody have any good info on this issue?
