My understanding is that the DB has been recovered from the drives. I am desperately trying to get a hold of the admins to get the DB, and bring up the server.
I know it's been a long time, I guess I will start making my own weekly backups of the DB in addition to the primary backups.
Regrettably, all of those folks who logged into the swrap instance may have hosed their disks. My understanding was that was a test instance of the server, so I didn't think to warn everyone. I'm not sure what will happen when the main server comes back up.

I certainly have no problem creating a new account, so it's no biggie here. Will be glad to see the service back up! Thanks for keeping an eye on this Jim!

Every one of its source files contains the following header: QLinkServer is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or (at your option) any later version. There is nothing stopping anyone with a copy of the source code from setting up a server, fixing bugs, adding features, etc. The only argument I've heard against that is that multiple Q-Link servers might be running at once, in which case people would have to use a different disk for each server. Considering the length of time it's been down, I'd say that would be a small price to pay for getting the project back on track. As Eric Raymond put it, "given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow".

I talked to Keith Henrickson at the July 23-24 CommVEx. He verifies that Q-Link Reloaded is not coming back any time soon. That is a simplification of reality.... here's reality. 1. I did not pay for the account on the only server that had a copy of my notes on the protocol, thus the account and the notes were deleted. 2. A horrid hard drive accident destroyed the only copies of the two servers I had written. Neither of those were complete, nor functional beyond testing my theories. 3. I lack the time and/or energy to write a PC hosted server, maintain it, support it, and provide content for it. 4. After the 'cool' factor wore off, no one seemed to step up to the plate to provide content for the last go-around, hence interest tapered off. 5. I never had a complete, functioning copy of Jim Brain's server, which was far more complete than any code I ever wrote. 6. If anyone has a copy of Jim Brain's server, by all means run a version. It's GPL. 7. If people want the extras like SuperQ or Puzzler or Rabbitjacks... I'm going to have to be bribed. What bribe I could accept, I am not sure. 8. If people want Club Caribe... I have a mortgage. I'd like to not have a mortgage. We'll talk.

Does anyone have the Quantum Link Reloaded server source code? I wouldn't mind checking it out to see if I could get a working server up and running.
Let me know.
Thanks, -SF-

i have waited since 2005 to see something serious being done with Q-Link Reloaded. i hoped there would be put up a server and that rr-net was gonna be supported. and we would have a internet/news/chat etc all what q-link was for our c64s, and even som improvment with online game etc.. it is now 2012 nothing have happen, i guess we can say finale goodbye to the Q-Link Reloaded now.

ShadowM has Q-Link server running on his Raspberry Pi! On a SD card.
I been getting back on there some times and it works real good.
The IP is: 67.53.180.28:5190
I got that in my Comet64 Internet Modem can easy set that up with a program on the PC. I posted about that some were.
You can put that IP in VICE all so the RS232 settings. Have to Enable the RS232 userport in it then too at 1200 baud.
So it is up and running from about the start of this year. It should stay up for a long time running on a cheap low power on a SD card Raspberry Pi.
