Just like the subject says. I am working on a portable DTV. This one will be based on the DTV V1 unit considering it has the joystick connections. This will not be in a jiffy box. Pictures will be posted when the project is completed. This one will have all of the available ports and it will also have the 1541-III built in. The only drawback is the unit will only be portable with the built in 30 games. I wish there was a menu driven file selection for the 1541-III. Then it would be 100% portable.

Oh I almost forgot to mention, it will also be a color tv also. You will be able to switch between TV/DTV. Here's some screen shots of the TV function: Enjoy!

Wow, looking good and also a great idea to use the Atari Lynx for the project. Will the Lynx still function or is it a sacrafice? Any details on this project are sure to be interesting.

Wow, looking good and also a great idea to use the Atari Lynx for the project. Will the Lynx still function or is it a sacrafice? Any details on this project are sure to be interesting. Thanks Expertsetup! The Lynx is dead.... I have a bunch of dead Lynx systems. Here's some specs on this project: Directional Pad: DTV Joystick Bottom A & B buttons: DTV Fire button 1 & 2 Top A & B Buttons: TV Tuner Up/Down The 1541-III will be mounted in the cartridge slot so that you can insert SD/MMC card just like a cartridge. I am also using Ni-MH batteries with a power jack available. The IEC port will use a mini-din connector since there is not enough space for the full size IEC port. So I will have to build a mini-din to din cable for floppy drives. I'm waiting on my other DTV v1 board to arrive before I can continue anything else. Pyrofer is also out of stock on the 1541-III units, so that will be another delay for a finished product. The hardest part was wiring up the LCD screen. I had to remove the connector from the pcb and solder 30 wires to the LCD and PCB. The lcd screen was about 1/8" narrower than the original lynx screen. So I used electrical tape to cover the metal shielding around the lcd screen. That way you can't really tell. The height of the screen was perfect. I will keep ya'll posted on the progress of this.

Well, after squeezing everything together, the TV and DTV boards will not fit. So I made this one strictly a TV/Monitor. The border of the C64 screen didn't take up the whole screen and left about 1/4" gap on each side of the lcd. The tv used the whole lcd screen. When I get my 3.5" lcd monitor in, I will make another Lynx, but it will be the DTV only with ports and 1541-III. Here's it is hooked up to my original DTV: TO BE CONTINUED......

Just an update on the LynxDTV. I have installed the new 3.5" lcd screen and it takes up the whole space where the original lynx screen was. Here some more pics: The joypad will be a snap to wired up considering the lynx and the dtv both have 'common' sides of the direction pads. This thing will use 12 volts. I was dissapointed that the lcd uses 12v but it also uses 5v too. So I will tap off 5v from the lcd regulator to power the dtv and 1541-III. To Be Continued..... Again.......

OK, got the DTV(v1) wired up along with joystick 1 and fire button 1. I replaced the lynx led with the dtv led(which is far brighter). Wired joystick1 to the directional pad, Fire button 1 is wired to button 'A'. The power button is the reset for the dtv. The other buttons surrounding the screen are not wired up considering the use the same common trace as with all the other buttons. I was going to use them for joystick2 but I can't because of that issue. I also used the original lynx speaker in place of the monitor's speaker. The only things I have left to do is cut another piece from a dead lynx pcb for the volume, brightness, the external power jack, power switch, and the keyboard and iec ports. Oh and order another 1541-III from Pyrofer and install that too. Here the dtv in action: I'm getting closer to finishing this project!

I got the 3.5" lcd from ebay. Here's the specs: Screen size : 3.5 Inches (diagonal) Ratio : 4:3 TFT screen Resolution (H x V) : 112,320 pixels Is that resolution sufficient? Now this is interesting. An inexpensive PAL monitor for North Americans to use with the DTV-II. Too bad it doesn't do both NTSC and PAL. That would be fantastic. Here's a link to the seller. Not a bad deal for $50. Thanks for sharing that info.

Is that resolution sufficient? Oh yeah! You would not believe the picture this thing has. I played Jumpman Jr on it last night and it was VERY detailed. Jumpman Jr was not a pixel or a dot on the screen. When I had my dtv hooked up to the 3" lcd, you could not hardly make anything(text) out. It's amazing what an extra 1/2" will do. I can not express it enough that the graphics are VERY detailed. I wish I could get a clear picture of the screen with my camera or camcorder, but I am not able to. It does both PAL and NTSC. The back of the monitor case says "PM-35NP" and "NTSC/PAL". So your in luck there! Here's the back of the case: Your welcome! He ships very quick. I was surprised I actually got it for $50 considering I've seen 2.5" lcd's sell for $75! The only thing you have to be careful with is removing the lcd from the original case. They used tough glue. I had to dremel some of the glue so I could remove it from it's casing. And then snap the rest of the glue off carefully. If anyone else is interested in modding a lynx with a dtv, let me know and I will give you an ebay seller's ID for a defective lynx-II system for cheap! She didn't have them listed, but I e-mailed her and she said she had plenty more. I paid $5 each! Some of them actually worked too...

I got all the parts in today to finish this up except the 1541-III. Which should be here soon. Pyrofer can't keep any in stock. Them CRAZY people keep buying him out after about 3 or 4 days. Such CRAZY people in this DTV world.... ;D

I got the 12 volt battery pack built and tested. I am using (10) GP16AAAM NiMh batteries. They are 1/3 the size of a AAA battery. These batteries are perfect for any portable project. They are only 160Mah batteries, but they should hold up for a descent time. Keyboard might limit charge life, but what do you expect. Pyrofer e-mailed me and told me my 1541-III is on it's way.

I have a question for you, Wouldn't it be easier to use a Classic Atari Lynx, instead of the Lynx II? I'm just suggesting this because you said the boards didn't fit.
