I've always had a deep resentment for SCSI cabling and termination requirements. It is the single leading cause of hair loss (by pulling) in the world.
Now, to top things off, I'm on the verge of having an A2000 running with a Fujitsu 9.1GB SCSI drive. PLENTY of room for archiving all my floppies, and even storing the entire Fred Fish collection on-board if I so desired.
I was able to simply plug the SCSI drive I have been using for a while (using a 50/68/80pin adapter) along the same cable as the new SCSI-III 9.1GB drive (with the same kind of adapter) and have them work flawlessly. After learning how to enter custom drive parameters through HDToolbox, I was able to create many near 1GB partitions on the Fujitsu, format them, and copy the content from the partitions of my original drive. No errors at all.
When I put the new drive on by itself, or on the chain with just an old SCSI CD-ROM drive (50-pin), I get read errors and partitions which are now "Not a DOS disk" (even though they formatted fine before).
I never really understood termination issues, but I feel this is my problem. My drive hardware consists of:
My first cable configuration was:
GVP --> "unbranded" drive --> CD-ROM
on a three connector cable. I have no idea what the termination configuration is because they simply worked together from the start.
What I had working (without verifying termination) while I formatted and copied data to the new drive was:
GVP --> "unbranded" drive --> Fujitsu drive
When trying to finally pull the "unbranded" drive from the configuration, I run into problems. The following configurations cause "Not a DOS disk" errors on the Fujitsu drive:
GVP --> Fujitsu drive
or
GVP --> Fujitsu drive --> CD-ROM
or
GVP --> CD-ROM --> Fujitsu drive
If I were to guess, I believe the "unbranded" drive was fulfilling my termination requirements. However, that is the drive I want to replace. I don't think I need two hard drives in my Amiga with the amount of storage space I'm able to provide with one drive. I tried looking for termination capabilities of the Fujitsu drive, but finding a detailed manual for the drive is as frustrating as getting the cabling correct.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

- A GVP Impact A2000-HC+8 Series II (I think. It is unlabeled, but looks exactly like this one:amiga.resource.cx/photos/impact2000hc8,3)
- an "unbranded" (label worn) SCSI II or III hard drive using a pin adapter which I formatted only to the 950MB recommended by FaaastPrep (I know, probably plenty of unused space left on the drive)
- A Fujitsu MAJ3091MC 9.1GB SCSI-III drive using a pin adapter.
- A generic 50-pin SCSI CD-ROM drive (which works fine with the "unbranded" drive.
